KIT & JOE · FRACTIONAL CFO SERVICES

A clearer view of
your business finances.

I’m Michael Cheung, CPA, CA. I help small business owners understand their cash flow, plan spending, and make sense of their financial results.

If you have a bookkeeper or accountant but still find yourself working through the bigger financial questions alone, we should talk.

An initial conversation is free. We’ll discuss what you need and whether I can help.

You have the reports.
It helps to have someone
to talk them through with.

Perhaps revenue is growing but cash still feels tight. Or you’re considering a new hire and want to know what the business can afford.

Those questions need more than a look at last month’s profit. I work with you to understand the numbers, test your assumptions, and decide what to do next.

The work

Practical support,
where you need it.

The scope depends on your business. These are the areas I can help you work through.

01

Cash flow

A forecast of what’s coming in, what’s going out, and when. We look at payment timing, upcoming commitments, and the cash your plans will need.

Cash forecasts · Working capital · Spending scenarios
02

Budgets & planning

A budget grounded in how your business operates. We work through assumptions about sales, staffing, and costs so you can assess a decision before committing to it.

Annual budgets · Rolling forecasts · Hiring and expansion plans
03

Reporting & profitability

A useful explanation of your results. We look at what changed, which parts of the business are earning their keep, and what deserves your attention.

Management reporting · Margin analysis · Company scorecards

I work alongside your existing bookkeeper or accountant. The focus is on financial planning and business decisions, building on the records they maintain.

HOW WE WORK TOGETHER

A regular conversation.
A plan we keep up to date.

I call the approach the “5 Pillar Company Pulse.” It gives us a structure for the work: agree on the priorities, build a budget, review the results, and follow through. We agree on a meeting schedule that suits your business.

01

Big-picture planning

Define your goals, priorities, and the financial decisions ahead.

02

Budgeting

Translate the plan into realistic revenue, spending, and cash assumptions.

03

Management reports

Bring the results together in a format that makes sense to you.

04

Performance reviews

Discuss what changed, why it matters, and what to do next.

05

Company scorecards

Track the key measures that connect day-to-day activity to your goals.

Meet Michael

Michael Cheung, CPA, CA | Founder of Kit & Joe

I’m Michael, a Chartered Professional Accountant, husband, and dad to two young daughters. I live in Langley, and outside of work, much of my time revolves around family and basketball, a sport I’ve spent years playing and coaching.

I moved to Canada with my parents when I was five. When it came time to name my business, I chose their names: Kit & Joe. It’s a small way of keeping my family connected to something I’m building myself.

Professionally, I bring 15+ years of experience in accounting and finance. I started my career at KPMG and have since held financial leadership roles across private businesses, publicly traded companies, and the non-profit and public sectors. My work has included budgeting and forecasting, cash flow planning, financial reporting, systems implementation, and improving financial processes.

Working inside organizations has given me an appreciation for the decisions behind the numbers. A budget might determine whether you can hire someone. A cash flow forecast might show whether an expansion is manageable. A profitability review might explain why a busy year hasn’t translated into more money in the bank.

Those are the conversations I enjoy having with business owners.

I’ve also run a consulting business and pursued business ventures of my own. I understand how much thought goes into spending your own money, taking on another commitment, and finding time to build something alongside family responsibilities. All business recommendations need to make sense in that context.

My experience in parenting and coaching basketball has influenced how I work, too. You have to meet people where they are, explain things clearly, and recognize that the same approach won’t work for everyone. I bring that mindset to finance. You should feel comfortable asking questions, whether you know your financial statements inside out or aren’t sure where to start.

My approach is straightforward: understand your business, explain what the numbers are telling us, and help you work through the options. I’m naturally someone who asks what could go wrong, so I like to test assumptions and make sure a plan has room for things to turn out differently.

The aim is to help you move forward with a realistic understanding of what you’re taking on.

That’s what I want Kit & Joe to offer: practical financial guidance and someone you can have an honest conversation with.

If that sounds like the kind of support you’re looking for, I’d be glad to hear more about your business!

A few questions

What to expect.

What is a fractional CFO?

A fractional CFO provides financial leadership on a part-time or contract basis. The focus is on planning, cash flow, performance, and business decisions, with a scope tailored to the business.

Do I still need my bookkeeper or accountant?

Yes. Bookkeeping and tax work remain essential. Fractional CFO support builds on that information to help you plan ahead and evaluate decisions. We can work alongside your existing finance providers.

Is my business too small?

Kit & Joe focuses on small businesses with up to $10 million in annual revenue. Revenue alone does not determine fit: the decisions you face, the complexity of your finances, and the support you need matter too. An introductory conversation helps establish whether the service is appropriate.

How much does it cost?

The fee depends on the work involved and how often you need support. After an initial conversation, I’ll propose a scope and fee for you to review before we start.

How does remote support work?

Meetings take place remotely, with an agreed process for sharing financial information and reviewing reports. The meeting schedule and working arrangements are established as part of your engagement.
